The server was originally setup as a Workgroup before I arrived - it was re-booting every 7 days due to licence requirements wanting it to be setup as a domain. So I installed domain services and promoted this as the DC. This installed and promoted fine and I have a number of users and machines joined to the domain. I am migrating the company over in a phased approach to domain based access but have an issue where the server believes it's setup hasn't been completed.
I cannot open the Dashboard of the server I get a message saying:. You cannot open the dashboard until you complete the server setup". I tried the method above and it kick started a small window with a progress bar for a second or two which then changed to an unavailable web page.
The only way out was to Alt-F4 which asked whether I was sure I wanted to exit setup, confirming took me back to my desktop with the same unfinished setup messages. I then installed the IIS Role on the server and tried the method above again. Instead of the unavailable webpage it loaded a message saying:.
To save the error logs, click Save logs. It is recommended that you select a folder on removable media such as a USB flash drive so that you can access the files from another you havent finished migrating windows server 2012 essentials free download. It then provides a 'Save Logs' button and a 'Restart' button - saving logs does nothing.
Again I have to Alt-F4 to get out of this or restart. The server is generally functioning fine, providing access to users files, authentication etc but I want to setup anywhere access which is done through the dashboard so I can't progress.
Re-building this would be a huge task as its a single server site so everything is running on here. Only a guess that will not help. But essentials setup makes it a dc and it may be failing because it already is a dc. The business requires and deserves a server that's installed properly. Anything less and the IT tech will always be chasing down one problem or another and guess who's going to get blamed for every little thing that does goes wrong.
I would suggest biting the bullet now and reinstalling the server you havent finished migrating windows server 2012 essentials free download line of business apps properly. It may take a long weekend but that's better than fighting a bad install. Having done a bit more digging I have managed to get the log files to save and have traced the setup error back to when the server was originally built. This must have been ignored and as the desktop was still accessible simple file sharing was setup, line of business database installed and no other role or feature so the business were none the wise.
